Find the difference
Spec
When Present doesn't match the balance on the bank's or card's site: the person enters the site's balance, and the dialog points at the entries that likely explain the difference, each fixed right there. After a fix the check runs again by itself, and a match is saved. Every plan, Free included. Built from existing pieces and the Swapped digits mark.
Ways in
- "Not matching? Find out why" under Present, in the pinned bar on wide screens when it fits, and the F key on wide screens.
What it asks
- "Enter the current balance on your card's site. Leave out pending charges; most card sites list them separately." (checking and savings: "your bank's site").
- The field "Current balance on your card's site" in the Text field's large amount, "Present here: $1,284.60" under it, and a checkbox for a balance the other way ("It's a credit (you've paid more than you owe)", or "It's overdrawn (below zero)"). Cancel and Check.
The result
- "$54.00 apart" (heading), "Adjustmint shows $54.00 less than your card's site." and "Present $953.73 · your card's site $1,007.73" (text-secondary).
- Each cause: its heading in the label style, the warning band when the cause has one, and its entries as phone Register rows (the cleared circle for the eye, payee and amount, date · category), newest first, at most 5 in all.
- Every row explains itself (1.1.0): under the date, the row's own sentence (row-secondary, text-primary), then its Text buttons. A cause's words sit on each row, not once above them, because rows in one cause can differ.
- Buttons say what they do. Their accessible names are the visible label first, then the payee (WCAG 2.5.3): "Change to $271.92, Pine Street Grocer".
- A screen reader reads each sentence from a plain copy with whole amounts; the marked sentence is for the eye.
- Check again (Secondary) and Done (Primary).
The causes, in order
- Cleared for exactly the difference: "Not on your card's site? If you entered it twice, delete it. If it hasn't posted yet, mark it not cleared." Delete it and Mark not cleared.
- Same amount, same day: the band "Same amount, same day. Was one entered twice, or hasn't it posted yet?" speaks for the pair; each row has Delete it and Mark not cleared.
- Entered the wrong way round (half the difference): "Refund entered as a charge?"; each row "If this was a refund of $59.91, that's the $119.82: twice its amount." and Make it a $59.91 refund (checking: a deposit or a withdrawal).
- Possible typo (two neighboring digits swapped, only when the difference divides by 9): with two or more rows, the band "Only one of these is likely the cause. Look on your card's site to see which."; none with one row. Each row "If this was $271.92, not $217.92, that's the $54.00.", with the Swapped digits mark on both amounts; the row's own amount stays plain. Change to $271.92 changes the amount at once.
- Not cleared for exactly the difference: "If it's on your card's site, mark it cleared." and Mark cleared (not for an entry dated after today).
After a fix
- The check runs again. Matched: "That did it", one line for what changed ("We changed Pine Street Grocer, Oct 28, from $217.92 to $271.92."), "Your Present balance and your card's site now both show $1,007.73.", "Matched today, Nov 1." and Undo.
- Still off: the new difference and its causes. Undo reverses the fix and the saved match and runs the check again.
- Nothing found: the entries cleared since the last match, and on a card one adjustment as the last step.

Changes
- 1.1.0, Nov 1 2026: Every suggestion explains itself: each row has its own sentence, and Possible typo's warning band ("Only one of these is likely the cause.") shows with two or more rows. The swapped digits are marked. Buttons say what they do: Change to $271.92 (changes it at once, replacing Edit amount), Delete it, Mark not cleared, Make it a $59.91 refund; their names are the label, then the payee. A screen reader reads each sentence with whole amounts. (#158)
- 1.0.0, Oct 21 2026: First version: the site's balance in, the likely causes out (cleared for exactly the difference, the same amount on the same day, entered the wrong way round, two digits swapped, not cleared), each fixed in the dialog, then the check again and a saved match. (#143)
